- C.7 Protecting Our Shoreline - What Works
- The San Juan Initiative was a three-year pilot project of the Puget Sound Partnership whose goal was to improve protection of the shoreline. Amy will address a whole array of complex questions developed through the Initiative, including: What is working and what is not for protecting our shorelines from human impacts? How can we do a better job? How can we effectively develop along our shores in a way that works for both people and nature? Is there a way to change the litigious nature of shoreline management?

- Amy Windrope
- Amy has worked in ecosystem management and environmental education with state governments and non-profits in California, Oregon, and most recently Washington. Prior to managing the San Juan Initiative, she was Policy Coordinator for a multi-state science/policy initiative at Oregon State University, the Partnership for the Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans. In this position her task was to infuse university-based science into public discussions and policy decisions in such areas as marine reserves, wave energy, and ecosystem-based management of the nearshore. This role reflects Amy's expertise in the nexus of the science of coastal systems, public policies affecting these systems, and the engagement of citizens in resolving complex problems.
