Jon received his diving certification as part of a marine biology related degree. He and a career in science parted ways quickly after finishing his degree, but his fascination with marine ecology and his delight in spending time underwater remained a constant. Many years after his first dive, a friend loaned him a simple point and shoot camera in an underwater housing. To his wife's dismay, that simple point and shoot camera quickly turned into a giant collection of diving gear and underwater camera gear, and he has spent the last 15 years exploring the marine waters of the Puget Sound Basin and British Columbia. He has two permanent displays, one at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle and one at the Seattle Aquarium.
