C.11 Smith and Minor: New Aquatic Reserves
The Aquatic Reserves Program conserves state-owned aquatic lands that will enhance the health of native marine and freshwater aquatic habitats and the fish and wildlife that depend on them. The program seeks to conserve environmental resources by limiting Department of Natural Resources (DNR) authorized uses that could have a negative impact on those resources. The program also encourages sustainable public recreational activities, scientific research and monitoring, and educational outreach. DNR is currently working with local stakeholders on establishing an Aquatic Reserve around Smith & Minor Islands; this proposed reserve will be highlighted as an example. Michael Grilliot
