Visitors to the Coupeville Wharf can now view beautiful images (by artist Uko Gorter) of Rosie the gray whale, Salty the sea lion, and Rudy the Dall’s porpoise, and match the pictures to their skeletons suspended from the ceiling. The installation was done Dec 1st, and was a little nerve-wracking but the results are wonderful.
In the next phase of the display update – a lively wall of art and text will ask visitors what is so special about Penn Cove, and how that can keep it special. (Donations to expedite the completion of Phase II can be sent to: Sound Water Stewards, PO Box 1620, Freeland, WA 98249)
Thanks to all the volunteers who’ve helped bring this project to fruition – Sarah Schmidt, Sammye Kempbell, Jill Hein, Sandy Shipley, Jay Adams, David Thomson, Susan Berta, and Sandy Dubpernell.
Thanks also to important technical experts – Dan Pedersen (writer), Kris Wiltse (artist), Scott Rosenkranz (graphic artist), and Josephine Peters (Swinomish Tribe)
